The Next Step In Racing and Fitness Training

I specialize in strength and conditioning for endurance athletes.   My goal as a coach and trainer is to build you up so you’re a more efficient athlete.   I train people to acclimate to high intensity efforts, but that’s not the primary purpose.  Intensity for intensity sake is fine for some, but it’s not everything.  The goal is to get to the finish line fast, ready to race again.

Looking to get faster?

I look at your running and how your body moves.  If change is needed we change it.

Do you want strength that can be applied in the real world?

We tackle strength and stability.  Pick up something heavy, put it down.  Repeat.  Develop that kinesthetic awareness that’s crucial to outdoor sports.  Whether that’s canyoneering and you’re climbing up and over boulders, or you are faced with a mountain bike section that requires a bit of “hike-a-bike”, you need your body to to respond to the demand quickly and effectively.

On any given training day you might find yourself knee deep in a CrossFit benchmark workout like Fran, or you’re developing the static strength required in stabilization training with TRX, or you’re simply towing someone in a partner workout.  We may use kettlebells, sandbags or body weight. It depends on the goal of the workout and where you are in your training.

Set Goals

As a triathlete and now adventure racer with limited time, I specialize in getting the busy, modern-day athlete in shape for racing. Many training programs are designed or modeled after professional triathletes. It makes sense, they are the fastest and we all want to race like that. That same training plan will not equate for the working mom, the executive that has to be in 20 places at the same time, or the college student with study demands. Training has to be short, targeted, and effective without over stressing an already stressed system. Recovery has to be planned, and strength training becomes even more important.

Train smarter, not longer

I focus on these types of training goals: get in shape, set performance goals, execute; all while keeping your life in balance. Whether it’s about you getting in shape, setting a new personal record, or completing your first race, my training approach can get you there. Health is important. So is your family and your career.

Allow me to share with you what I’ve learned that has put me in the best shape of my life, all while being a dad, a husband, a racer and has kept me sharp in my aims in the business world. It’s not easy, but with a little planning, it can come together.

I’ve had great success with triathletes, adventure racers and folks just trying to survive a full day of skiing.

Reviews:

As a new triathlete, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your “New to the sport” workout sessions this year. Even though I just attended a few sessions, they really helped me a lot in terms of confidence. During your workouts I found out that I could do a lot more than I thought I could. The workouts were both challenging and a lot of fun. See you next year!

Thanks again for the workout Saturday morning. I really learned a lot and feel like I have a much better idea of how I can take my training to the next level.

I can’t imagine taking on my first 70.3 without the training plan Brandon created for me.  Unlike out-of-the-box plans sold on many sites, Brandon was able to create a personalized plan that worked with my schedule – even coming up with creative solutions like biking to work and running during lunch to get in the training I needed.  Also, Brandon took into account my current fitness level and my past race performance to create a plan that was realistic, yet still challenging. My training plan kept me focused and gave me the confidence to know that I was prepared and ready for the race.

The race went perfect as far as my goals were concerned. I felt that I accomplished a good job getting my teammates through the race. I was able to tow a teammate on the bike from elevation of the lake all the way up to North Star (so, ~1900ft+ elevation or so) and we were passing people!!!! It was so awesome! You’ve definitely turned me into a machine. I really didn’t feel tired at all during the race – only afterwords.

I saw results immediately after working with Brandon for only two weeks! I love his philosophy of making training fit into your real life and quality over quantity and also how research and data driven he is. Plus, he hasn’t “drunk the koolaid” of one particular method, but combines the best/most appropriate methods from a variety of training philosophy to come up with a program that meets your goals.

Gwen and I often laugh about the idea of taking up ballroom dancing.  Our goal, even for the wedding, was to do an overhead press and transition to one arm.  Despite Gwen’s petite size, I did not have the strength to do it.  The other day, we were in the pool and I asked her to go for it.  To my surprise, I was actually able to press her and lockout the arms. …the Brandon workouts are working!
Next step, One arm.  :)

Brandon cares about your improvement. No one size fits all, but “all about you”. That and he will take the same punishment up 10 notches to show you nothing’s impossible.

Brandon is a great coach and trainer. He really helped me set my foundation to build up to finish my first half-iron. For those of you that want to get in shape and really improve your fitness talk to Brandon! You won’t be disappointed.

Make the Commitment
The commitment happens when you’ve internalized your goals. One way to do this is to say them out loud. Go ahead and pick a goal RIGHT NOW, and say it OUT LOUD. Pause from reading and really do this..
Did you say it?
Seriously. Say it OUT LOUD.
By making goals audible (saying them out loud), tactile(writing them down), and visible(putting them where you can see them daily), you’ve just paved a path for your mind to speed down the road to achievement.
Commit to making your next racing season the one you can look back with pride. This year is going to be the turning point for you. You’re going to fly.
